Tuesday of Week 2 in
Ordinary Time
We’ve
been reading 1 Samuel “THE Classic Underdog Story” for a while now. And we are at a really good part in the story
today. A quick recap: Remember Hannah is barren but the Lord gives
her Samuel---When he is weaned she gives him to the priest Eli as
promised---Samuel is the last of the Hebrew Judges and things are going super
well for him---but the people want a King---because everyone else has a
King---Samuel chooses Saul…a very bad choice and lots bad things happen…bloody
things---Samuel ends up in Bethlehem (1000 years, give or take, before Jesus)
because the Lord tells him that the next King will be from the house of Jesse
and he lives there---All the big strong sons aren’t cutting it---seven came and
were disqualified---Jesse fess’s up that the youngest, David, is still out in
the field---it never occurred to him that the little guy might be the one.
Enter
the adorable young shepherd David.
But
there is an ominous soundtrack playing in the background. Saul wants to kill him! It is a battle for the throne and since it is
THE classic underdog story no need for a spoiler alert now!
Once
again, it is the small theme. The Lord
said to Samuel (in reference to the big guys), “Do not judge from his lofty stature, because I have rejected
him. Not as man sees does God see,
because he sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart.”
Give
me heart!
I
want your heart!
All
things are possible if only I have hold of your heart!
