Friday of the 6th Week of Easter
This pericope from Acts tells the story of how the Jews of Corinth who were scandalized by Paul's teaching, tried to bring the Roman proconsul, Gallio, into the heated debate. In psychological jargon, they were trying to "triangle Gallio."
Paul is doing well in Corinth. Making tents is his day job and making Jewish-Christians, it seems, occupies every other waking hour of the day. He is not afraid. He is free. God's presence is palpable.
The triangling doesn't work. Gallio won't be pulled in. But I can understand the impulse. Feeling threatened does that to a person (or a people).
Feeling threatened comes in small ways every day. I can catch myself by noticing that impulse to 'triangle.' It is like 'circling the wagons' and reveals frozenness in fear.
God says to Paul and to me:
GO ON!
Do not be afraid...do not be silent, for I am with you.
Circling is so boring...same view!
