Tuesday of Week 19 in
Ordinary Time
Saint Teresa
Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)
If the general narrative flow of the
Book of Ezekiel is weird, to bad, to much worse, to better, we are in the
beginning…the ‘weird’ part.
Four creatures with two pairs of wings...
…Inside storm and clouds
…Each with four faces…one of which is
human
…And wheels and burning coals
Weird
Above all this weird stuff, Ezekiel
discerns the Lord…the clues: throne, rainbow, glory.
God says Ezekiel must go to his people
and warn them. He will be held
accountable for their sinfulness if he doesn’t!
As all good preachers know, in order to
speak the Word of the Lord, you better have first chewed on it yourself! You should probably even have wrestled with
it! Good news for Ezekiel…it tastes
really good! The scroll/the Word, is
eaten, taken in, digested, broken down, absorbed, and transformed into the
energy that propels a life.
Fill up on my Word, says the Lord
Overeat!
Go on…trust me…it will be good for you!
Otherwise, Ezekiel (or some other son of man aka mortal)
will end up preaching him/herself…not The
Word of the Lord.
It is so Eucharistic.
The love of God...God's very self, overflows
We receive and hope to be overwhelmed
by God's presence
…in Word, Sacrament, Creation, Each
Other
Overwhlem me…
That I may become what I eat!

phrase ‘you are what you eat’ click here)
