John 6:24-35
The Bread of Life Discourse continues...
In Johannine fashion, misunderstanding continues. Like Nicodemeus and the Woman at the Well the crowds see signs and wonders that dazzle. But Jesus speaks at a different level. He speaks to the greatest thirst and the ultimate hunger of the human heart.
What is this life that the Father gives? The bread that comes down from heaven is the bread that gives life to the world. Just how does that work? Life, real human life is born of communion between man and woman. In that act of mutual self surrender we imitate the God made visible in Jesus Christ. There is an offering of communion with God who IS a communion of persons. Communion, with God, neighbor, and all of creation is the STUFF of life. Faith in that is what I will ponder as I say Amen this morning.
