Saturday of Week 28 in Ordinary Time
Feast of St Ignatius of Antioch

Do not have Jesus Christ on your lips,
and the world in your hearts.
St Ignatius, Epistle to the Romans

The context of this passage from Luke 12 comes on the heels of much contempt for hypocrisy and the un-integrated person.  So perhaps this distinction between, speaking a word against the Son of Man (forgivable), and blaspheming against the Holy Spirit (unforgivable), has to do with that hypocrisy. Ignorance, lack of experience, or misinformation might lead many to speak a word against the Son of Man. But blaspheming against the Holy Spirit implies a certain knowing about what one is doing. It has a violence to it. Hypocrites live in that tension that does violence to that part of themselves they must deny in order to maintain their outside shell.
